It all started on the island of Lido in Zemun, on a summer day in the early 1990's. A group of youngsters went into the woods, cut two threes, stuck them in sand, placed the net between, and started to play beach volleyball.

 

Here is a brief history of beach volleyball in Serbia

 

2006

Limasol Open (CYP) - Ivan Bugarcic and Vladimir Knezevic win the tournament.

 

2005

FIVB Challenger – Palinuro (ITA), 7th place for Sinisa Antonic and Nikola Vucic.

FIVB Challenger – St. Jean des Monts (FRA), Sinisa Antonic and Nikola Vucic take 9th place.

Limasol Open (CYP) - The winners are Ivan Bugarcic and Vladimir Knezevic.

 

2004

Swatch FIVB World Tour in Budva (SCG). The winners are Ricardo and Emanuel from Brazil. Serbian teams Ivan Bugarcic/Vladislav Mandic and Dejan Stanojcic/Slobodan Kovac finished 25th in the Main draw.

CEV Challenger - Zagreb (CRO). Four teams representing Serbia - Bugarcic/Mandic, Ilic/Jovic, Jovanovic/Veckov take 17th place, Kovac/Stanojcic finished 26th

Kerinia Cup - Limasol (CYP) - Gold for Ivan Bugarcic and Dusan Ilic

 

2003

CEV Challenger – Zagreb (CRO), Ivan Bugarcic and Slobodan Kovac came out on 5th place whilst Dejan Stanojcic and Ivan Vladisavljevic finished 13th.

 

2002

Novi Sad hosts first international event in Serbia, with participants from Cyprus, Croatia and Romania. It is won by Ivan Vladisavljevic and Branislav Jovanic.

 

2001

European Cup in Prague (CZE) - Bojana Radulovic and Ana Mozgon ended 5th.

 

2000

The first commercial sponsored National circut takes place in Belgrade and Pozarevac with 7 tournaments. 

Kerinia Cup – Limasol (CYP), 3rd place for Ivan Bugarcic and Ivan Vladisavljevic.

Bojana Radulovic and Ana Mozgon finished 21st in CEV U20 European Championships held in Nürnberg (GER).

Vladimir Aleksic and Nikola Vucic take 24th place at CEV U23 European Championships in San Marino (ITA)

 

1998

San Diego (USA) - First international gold for Ivan Bugarcic and Ivan Vladisavljevic.

Huntington Beach (USA)  - Ivan Bugarcic and Ivan Vladisavljevic ended tournament in ¼ finals.

Junior Balkan Championship (GRE) - Ivan Bugarcic and Nebojsa Djuric claim silver medal.

 

1997

Belgrade, Pancevo and Lazarevac host first National circuit.

FIVB World Tour Berlin (GER), first appearence of Serbian teams on international event. Ivan Bugarcic and Ivan Vladisavljevic finished 57th. 

The first indoor beach volleyball tournament is held in "11. april“ Sports center in Belgrade.

 

1993

The first official tournament is held in Novi Sad, on Strand beach. It is won by Vladimir Grbic and Dejan Brdjovic 

 

1992

The first two-men Beach Volleyball game was played on Belgrade’s famous beach Lido, thanks to junior volleyball players from Red Star and Partizan.
